Spilling the (Medicinal) Tea

  • The Pickman House 45 Charter Street Salem, MA, 01970 United States (map)

Herbal infusions, or teas, have been recorded in medical writings throughout human history. Passed down through generations, these hot drinks were a staple of health. Join the discussion as historian Dan Marshall shares how early New England doctors would have turned to medicinal teas as simple-to-make but potent treatments for a wide variety of ailments.

Visitors can explore some familiar herbs and flowers and create their very own medicinal tea bag to take home! Dan will also discuss more toxic historical tea remedies, including the use of mistletoe and tansy.

Dan Marshall is a museum professional who has shared his love of history with the public for over 25 years. He is currently Vice President of the Salem Historical Society.
